Swimwear Styles for Summer '17

With the summer fast approaching it is coming up to bikini season. So in order to motivate myself to keep working out for that "bikini body", of course I need new swimwear! Now, I'm one of those people who likes to buy new swimwear every year and so I tend to opt for cheaper, more affordable bikinis/one pieces because even if the material isn't as high quality, I know that I will only wear it for one season (unless I am completely in love).

With that being said, lets get into my favourite swimwear trends this summer..

5) The Halter Neck Bikini

First we have the simple, block colour halter neck top from PrettyLittleThing which retails at £8. This neckline is especially flattering for girls with smaller busts as the triangle shape draws the eyeline to the collar bones giving an elegant, covered look for those conservative ladies. This bright red also really works with any skin tone and attracts more attention despite the conservative style.

Missguided is the retailer of the second, slightly more raunchy "gathered open front bikini top". I love the rounded string neckline of this which is slightly softer than that of the first bikini. This one costs slightly more (£12) due to the extra detailing. Paired with the simple pants this is a stunning bikini and it comes in multiple colours so will be flattering whatever your skin tone!

Finally, I found this palm print bikini (something which I've also noticed is extremely popular this summer) on ASOS. I love the fact that this palm print is a bit different as it is blue rather than green toned. Similarly, the subtle cut outs on this top settle at a nice middle ground between the raunchy Missguided and the conservative PrettyLittleThing bikinis. This is slightly more pricey, with the top retailing at £26.

4) The Plunge One Piece

I LOVE this style! Although it can sometimes look a bit too obvious and over-the-top, I think that if you choose the right swimsuit for you, this plunge look can be very flattering and sexy. The first of these three swimsuits is an online exclusive from River Island and is currently on sale for £30. I adore the colour as it is very unique and although it is slightly darker and could be perceived as a more wintery tone, I think that with a tan this shade of purple is to die for! Also the mesh and strap detailing add a little something extra to this piece, making it even more eye-catching and beautiful.

The next simple and sultry white swimsuit is another one from Missguided. Retailing at just £15 this deep plunge is perfect for girls no matter the size of their boobs. White ALWAYS looks stunning next to a tan and makes you look even more bronzed. Whether you are sunning it up by the pool in Barbados (a girl can dream), or living it up on a booze cruise in Tenerife, this simple plunge bathing suit is perfect to give you that sexy, bronzed goddess vibe without looking like you're trying too hard.

Lastly, I stumbled upon this gorgeous orange swimsuit in New Look. Before I go into this one, can we just talk about the colour - personally I don't need any more reason than that to be in love with this swimsuit. But, if you need a little more convincing, then take a look at the detailing around the plunge area: the criss-cross design makes the plunge a bit more subtle and structured than the previous two, while still showing some skin. Additionally, the side panels are extremely flattering in creating the illusion of a smaller waist and drawing attention to the bust: accentuating those curves. This is currently on sale for £24.99.

3) Crochet

Okay, so, this first one is slightly more pricey than the previous swimwear mentioned: at £48. But I have been looking for something with this crochet stitch border for EVER, so when I found this one by Seafolly on ASOS I had to mention it! I am obsessed with this pastel yet bright orange, as well as the black and white stitching. The simple shape of the two pieces is classic so doesn't detract from the gorgeous stitching (it also won't give you weird tan lines so thats a bonus).

As well as the stitched border style this season, embroidered detail, as seen in this plunge swimsuit from InTheStyle, is also very popular. Flowers and appliqué/stitching are in this season generally but I think they look stunning on swimwear in particular. If you're going for that boho, girly vibe but aren't into the dramatic frills etc, then this is the style for you! This gorgeous coral plunge swimsuit retails at £26.99.

Lastly, we return to River Island for this navy blue crochet bikini. While it is a similar concept to the first one in the stitched border, this bikini makes use of multiple colours of stitching (which I adore) and also sets itself apart from other bikinis due to the shaping of the bra top. The cut outs under the cleavage and under the main back strap really add a new element of detail to the bikini and show off the crochet design. For only £22, the amount of detail put into this gorgeous swimsuit is such a bargain!

2) The Cut-Out One Piece

I first saw this style on Love Island's Montana Brown and loved how unique it was: she wore an all black cut-out one-piece on her entrance into the villa. When searching around for something similar I discovered this black and white number (my fave combo) from PrettyLittleThing for just £20! They also sell this in a two-tone pink and a blue/green but this was definitely my favourite of the three. I love that this is a hybrid between a classic one piece and a bikini.. Check out the link to this one to see the cross-back detailing which adds something extra to this already glamorous swimsuit.

The bright cobalt blue of this second one instantly lured me in when scrolling through the pages of various websites. This particular suit is from MissPap and retails for £18. I love the shape of the bra as it really shows off the cleavage and makes the bust look fuller without showing too much flesh. Also, because it is underwired, it provides slightly more support than many other one-pieces. Although the strappy details of this one could leave you with some weird tan lines, for some reason, to me this is still on my wish-list purely due to the feeling I would get when strutting down a beach thinking I'm Rihanna in my strapped up swimsuit.

Another swimsuit with the potential to give you weird tan lines (although I think this flaw is part and parcel of this style in general) is this stunning white cut-out from Boohoo. This intricate design is on sale in either black or white for just £20 and also incorporates the popular deep-plunge neckline. As this style is cut out at the waist it once again creates the illusion of a thinner middle and more sumptuous curves. I am obsessed with this simple yet elegant look.

1) Wrap/Tie One Piece

Finally, the wrap/tie/rope one piece's can be found on slightly edgier, younger websites this season. Starting with OhPolly, this "twist of fate" swimsuit comes in peach (as seen above), a pale blue and a khaki green; all of which are gorgeous! I love the cinched in waist that this style can achieve and I think that the knot detailing is simple but unique: a really easy way to add some detail to what would otherwise be a rather plain swimsuit. (On sale for £30).

The same can be said for this black tie one-piece from Lipsy. This bathing suit retails for £32 which initially seems a bit pricey for a plain black swimsuit with a ribbon tied around it. However, the back of this swimsuit adds a little something extra; turning into a halter neck bikini style, a back bra strap and pants, rather than a fully covered suit. Also, I love that despite the high rise pant line, this one little ribbon can give you a bit more confidence to feel as though you are protecting your modesty (although very slightly) and gives the suit its own take on a lot of these styles previously mentioned: cut out back, deep plunge neckline, and the tie round the hips.

And lastly we have Megan McKenna's own "Halter Neck Belted Bikini" at £25 from MissPap. I love the sunset shades of this suit which does the same thing as the previous one: going into a halter style bikini at the back despite the deep plunge, one-piece front. Once again the bow around the middle works to create the illusion of a slimmer waist and suck everything in (always helpful to feel sucked in when you have to get your kit off on a beach full of people). I think this piece is really original, and while I would usually shy away from most things patterned (as you might be able to tell), I adore the blending and blurring of these gorgeous burnt sunset colours.

So! There we have it: a compilation of what I believe are the most flattering and unique trends of this summer's swimwear from some of the more affordable shops out there. I love every single one of these styles and swimsuits and may have to buy a few of them myself before my holidays!.. Let me know if you have bought/tried anything similar and any tips on how to avoid those awkward tan lines when you just NEED to buy/wear that gorgeous laser cut one-piece and don all these varying neck lines!

Lots of Love xx
